Is Host Gator just a hosting service or does it provide domain names also?
It does provide domain names, but it’s better to get it elsewhere, like from Godaddy or Namecheap.
If you do want to get it from Hostgator it’s $15.00 for a domain name, and you can get it for about $7.50 from Godaddy (if you use their promo link).

I would imagine they will register domain name’s for you, however it would be a separate yearly fee.
Host gator isn’t an accredited domain registrar however, so they will go through another company to do the registering. You may just want to cut them out as the middle man and get your domain directly from an accredited registrar.
You can’t purchase any domain name from Hostgator, unless you buy one of their web hosting plans. However, after buying their web hosting service, via your account, you can purchase as many as additional domain names.
