This is part of a debate I’m having. I don’t think it makes and difference if I host a site locally or with a company 3000 miles away, but thought I’d check with the masses. Any thoughts?

How Do I Setup A Domain Name To Point To My Local Webserver?

I have apache with mysql and PHP installed, and i have setup port forwarding from my router to the web server pc.
I have a domain name, but unsure how i point the domain name to the websever. not using redirect. is it somthing to do with name servers?

Selling Domain Names – Plan – Buying Local Business Names When They Start Up?

So im thinking of buying out domain names to local businesses that start up (car washes, restraunts etc). Like a car wash in till town, buying out tilltowncarwash.com .. Then turning around telling them I have their name and seeing if they would like to purchase for a smalll amount (500- 1000 dollars). Does anyone have any experience doing something similar to this? Have you been successful? Its a free market place, so its fair.

How Can I Know The Connection Speed Of My Local Network To The Web Hosting Provider?

I register the yahoo web hosting recently. But i am in Hong Kong. I found the connect speed is very very terrible compared with my local web hosting used before…….
It can’t be acceptable if I need to upload a picture to server……..
How can I know the connection speed before I pay money to apply the service?
