Why Do Some Web Hosting Companies Offer 500 And 1000 Different Mailboxes?

I mean like unless you are a major corporation why would this many mailboxes be needed?

Since mailbox comes very cheap in terms of space and bandwith usage.

Well, major corporations do need that many.
Otherwise, some people creating a spam system use multiple addresses so if you block out one, it will try another the next time.

I see that as marketing gimmick, of course they had to and quite easy to deliver that promise. Although knowing details of how mail works made those inconsequential to me.
